Both of these trailers have been released over the Comic-Con weekend. One is fantastic. The other is disappointing. Too bad the disappointing one is for the movie I’m more excited about, but I’m trying to stay positive. Let’s talk about the better one first, Batman v Superman:

Fantastic. Better than I expected. It shows that Superman really pays the price for the carnage he caused in Man of Steel.

Let’s start with what I liked the best: Ben Affleck. Yeah, I’m surprised too. I thought that he would make a great Batman but a terrible Bruce Wayne. Wow, I was wrong. Affleck was perfect in this trailer. His facial expressions were spot on. I love the look in his eyes. Very excited (and hopeful) to see this guy play Batman now. If the trailer is at all indicative, he’s going to kill it.

Moreover, this Batman is the truly angry, dark, abusive Batman that is often shown in the comics but has not yet been seen in movies. Very nice.

I love the Joker references. The shot of Robin’s costume with Joker’s graffiti over it made me smile. If you didn’t know, that’s the Jason Todd Robin, whom the Joker murdered. That's why this version of Batman is so pissed off.

The shot with Wonder Woman is...eh...okay. I still hold to my original opinion: Gal Gadot is miscast since Wonder Woman is a big woman, with big legs, big muscles, big hair, and big boobs. Gal Gadot has none of that. She’s not a very good actress either. I’m also starting to think that this movie may end up being too bloated for it’s runtime, just like Avengers: Age of Ultron was, and it may not have room for Wonder Woman. But hey, as always with these movies, I’m trying to stay positive.

A lot of people hate Jesse Eisenberg but that’s exactly why I think he’ll make a good Lex Luthor. Eisenberg seems like a complete asshole in real life. That’s exactly who you want for a part like this.

Great trailer for what looks like a great film.

Now let’s hit Suicide Squad, a movie I’m much more excited for:

Let’s all be honest. The reason we’re excited for this movie is because of Harley Quinn and the Joker. No one really gives a shit about anyone else. This means if they screw up either Harley or the Joker, the rest of this movie is going to suck regardless of how cool they make any of the other characters.

This trailer did not showcase Harley or the Joker well. I was pretty disappointed. That doesn’t mean the movie will necessarily be bad, but it’s certainly not a good sign.

Most of the scenes in this trailer were more Margot Robbie than Harley Quinn. But I don’t want to see Margot Robbie. I want to see Harley Quinn.

The Jared Leto Joker is cool enough, but his voice inflections are way too similar to the Heath Ledger Joker. Again, not a good sign.

The script is also pretty shitty. “I hope he has insurance.” “I’m not going to kill you, I’m just going to hurt you real bad.” Yeesh. What kind of writing is this?

My prediction is that if the next Suicide Trailer is bad, the movie will be bad. If the next trailer is good, then the movie might have a shot.

We’ll see.
