Bill Gates doesn’t see what all the fuss is about.
By almost any measure, the world is better than it has ever been. People are living longer, healthier lives. Many nations that were aid recipients are now self-sufficient. You might think that such striking progress would be widely celebrated, but in fact, Melinda and I are struck by how many people think the world is getting worse.
This is the same as when Jim Rogers gets on TV and tells people he’s trying to invest in North Korea and Myanmar. Then all the newscasters look at him like he’s insane. But he’s worth millions and they aren’t.
The short-term future is going to be very painful for a lot of people. The Western world, as well as the Eastern world, are long overdue for some serious economic corrections. The next 10 years or so are going to be rough.
But the long-term future is very bright. Increasing technologies, globalization, miniaturization, improvements in agriculture, the rising “bottom billion”, all of this is going to be wonderful. Over the next 20-30 years people are going to be blown away at what’s going to happen…in a good way.

Posted at 05:23 pm, 2nd February 2014Short term focus leads to misery, even worse, it renders people helpless to enjoy thr prodigious benefits of technology thats transforming the world every minute. Words of clarity from Bill Gates, and thanks for sharing Caleb. Helps reminding me to be long term focus, and be happy, despite what floats around at the moment.
