The good news: They have officially cured Hepatitis C. Not a new treatment, but a real cure. Hep C infects far more people than HIV so this is really good news.
The bad news: It currently costs $1000 per pill. And you need something like 84 pills over the course of several months if you want to cure the disease. Holy crap.
There’s a big debate raging over the pricing of this. Regardless, this is still good news for the long term. Over time, the cost of this cure will go down, as all technology-related costs decline over time.
This is the first of many new cures to come over the next few decades.
