Marvel and DC Superhero Movie Release Schedule

Nerd news today. Both Marvel and DC have announced their official release schedule over the next several years, in a never-ending effort to one-up each other. In 30 years of following movies I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s below. I will only include movies that have been 100% confirmed.

May 2015 – Avengers (2): Age of Ultron (Marvel)

July 2015 – Ant-Man (Marvel) Yes, there’s actually a superhero named Ant-Man. He’ll be played by Paul Rudd and the villain will be Michael Douglas.

August 2015 – The Fantastic Four (Marvel via Fox) This will be a reboot from the older Fantastic Four films

March 2016 – Batman v Superman (DC) A hell of a lot of other superheroes will also be in this, including Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Robin (the little girl version from The Dark Knight Returns) etc.

May 2016 – Captain America (3): Civil War (Marvel)

May 2016 – X-Men: Apocalypse (Marvel via Fox)

August 2016 – Suicide Squad (DC) This is a bunch of DC super-villians who are forced to undertake missions for the US government.

November 2016 – Dr. Strange (Marvel) Likely to be played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

November 2016 – The Sinister Six (Marvel via Sony) These are the six biggest Spider-Man villains (Green Goblin, Electro, Doctor Octopus, etc) who team up and cause havoc.

March 2017 – Another Wolverine sequel (Marvel via Fox)

May 2017 – Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Marvel)

June 2017 – Wonder Woman (DC)

June 2017 – Fantastic Four 2 (Marvel via Fox)

August 2017 – Thor (3): Ragnarok (Marvel)

November 2017 – Justice League (DC) Isn’t November an odd month to release such a big film? Weird.

November 2017 – Black Panther (Marvel) He’ll be played by Chadwick Boseman, the guy who played Jackie Robinson in 42.

March 2018 – The Flash (DC) Played by Ezra Miller.

May 2018 – Avengers (3): Infinity War Part 1 (Marvel)

July 2018 – Captain Marvel (Marvel)

July 2018 – Aquaman (DC) The dumbest superhero ever, played by Jason Momoa. Hopefully he’ll be good.

November 2018 – Inhumans (Marvel) Likely to include Vin Diesel.

May 2019 – Avengers (3): Infinity War Part 2 (Marvel)

April 2019 – Shazam (DC) The villain will be played by Dwayne Johnson.

June 2019 – Justice League 2 (DC)

April 2020 – Cyborg (DC) Played by Ray Fisher

June 2020 – Green Lantern (DC) A reboot from the old film.

Insane, isn’t it? And that’s just the confirmed movies. There are many others that will probably happen before 2020 that have not been confirmed yet, like Deadpool, Venom, another Spider-Man movie, etc. Crazy.

You mean “The Dark Knight Rises,” not “returns.”

Also, slightly off topic, are you ever going to review the movie Atlas Shrugged II?

No, I really do mean Dark Knight Returns. I’m not talking about the movie, but about the graphic novel from the 80s written by Frank Miller that featured an old 50+ “retired” Batman with a teenage girl robin.

Atlas Shrugged II…you know, so few people bothered to see parts II and III that I’m not sure anyone would be interested. The summary was that Atlas Shrugged Part II was much better than Part I but still had flaws, and Atlas Shrugged Part III was really, really horrible. Cringe-worthy bad. Huge disappointment, considering that the final third of the book was the best.

    Oh well.

Personally, I’m looking forward to Civil War the most of the scheduled earlier releases. Having the battle lines drawn between those with Cap and those with Iron Man…gotta love it.

Then, it’d be the two-parter for Avengers, Thor 3, and Doctor Strange. I’m also hoping Hulk starts getting more love and they potentially add in a “Planet Hulk” movie.

And while DC is pretty good, Marvel is way ahead in the game right now. But hey, I just hope they all make great movies with solid stories. It’s like the golden age for comic geeks right now.

So, which movie(s) are you most looking forward to Caleb?

Suicide Squad!!! I love villains. I wish there were more movies featuring villains (who are actually bad, not “anti-heroes”) as main characters.

Oh yeah, i’m with ya on needing more anti-hero/villain based movies.

And, I’ll be looking forward to that movie even more if the rumor about Margot Robbie playing Harley Quinn turns out to be real.

They’ll have to scoop my tongue off the floor overtime she comes on to the screen.
