A quick one today. A while back, I ran a poll to determine which kinds of posts my audience most preferred at this blog. Since then, the traffic for this blog has more than doubled. So today, I’m going to again ask you guys a few questions so that this blog can be a better blog for you.
No poll this time. Instead, you can either email me or leave a comment on this post if you have any suggestions or answers to the below questions.
Currently with this blog, I follow a reasonably loose posting schedule of rotating topics that looks something like this:

So here are my questions for you:
1. Are those topics very interesting to you or just mildly interesting?
2. Should I talk more or less about some of those topics?
3. Are there any new topics I should add to the rotation?
4. Do you have any other advice or suggestions for me that you think will make this blog better and grow its audience? I’m all ears.

I have Five Flags as a core element of my Mission.
Plus I’m a big fan of films.
So I would prefer posts on:
1) Anything business related, including tips, your business struggles as a young man (I love those), and just a little bit of investing, since I know you don’t consider yourself an expert on that. (50%)
2) Any interesting discoveries or tips about the Five Flags Plan, including how well some older guys adjust to Southeast Asia, Latin America…etc. (40%)
3) The occasional rant or praise about some movie or tv show that is unique for some reason. (10%)
Any other topic is cool but I could take it or leave it.
As for growing your audience, I would highly recommend you find a couple of Chinese assistants to translate for you and tap into the Chinese market. You’re probably doing that already. The business pill is WAY more easy to swallow than the red pill. Who knows…maybe your rationality and humor might convince your Chinese audience to consider the Blackdragon Blog too.

I personally really like the whole spectrum of theory and practical posts.
The only point you listed that I don’t care about is some unrelated personal stuff like “Sleeping Arrangements” or “Weather Sucks”.

I get a lot more comments on the Deep Thoughts articles than other topics, so I’ll continue with those for now, but I will increase the other topics I listed in my comment above, thus reducing the frequency of other topics.

I don’t know how much of your traffic comes from Africa but given how popular your sites are, I’d say a decent amount atleast though you could correct me if I’m wrong.
As such, an occasional post on advice in these areas targeted to your African audience would be appreciated.

Posted at 02:09 pm, 3rd October 2018Business advice. Specifically marketing. As well as getting and maintaining new clients and revenue streams. Without revenue coming in you won’t have a business for long.
Also location independent income stuff. I’m curious as to how it would work, and if I’d be able to apply it. Potential services would be: Accounting and IT services. Hopefully I’ll be a licensed CPA soon. I plan on getting a CISA certification as well. Potential paths: Tax, setting up and auditing accounting information systems, internal financial audit to insure that the owners employees aren’t stealing from him. As well as potential IT security audits or setting up IT systems for small businesses.
I’d like to run my own business. I just don’t know if it’s doable. Getting clients is difficult, and most small business owners seem to work crazy hours. Ideally I’d like to combine my IT networking and computer security background with my finance and accounting background.

About 1%, and almost 100% of that is South Africa only. So not enough traffic to warrant advice specifically for Africans.

It is. Literally everything you listed can be made location independent with a little creativity. You really need to get the Alpha 2.0 Business Course when it comes out later this month.

In terms of making your blog the best in niche(s), here’s some of my ideas:
1. Are those topics very interesting to you or just mildly interesting?
I’ve always enjoyed this blog. I actually like the mixture of content. Personally, I like the deeper thought stuff, the political commentary and economics/business/investing/personal development stuff.
2. Should I talk more or less about some of those topics?
I enjoy the mixture and ideas from different angles, plus ideas in the comments section. Som of the ideas would be hard (for me) to find if they weren’t presented here.
3. Are there any new topics I should add to the rotation?
If you feel like talking about them. I don’t remember offhand, but I do like the personal development/sublime your time stuff, too, and those blog post may be less frequent recently.
4. Do you have any other advice or suggestions for me that you think will make this blog better and grow its audience? I’m all ears.
Besides continuing what you’re doing I would use more industry-standard onpage SEO. The good, high-quality onpage SEO will help improve SERPs AND potentially increase the quality of the posts. I would suggest more pertinent images, graphs and videos (besides the picture at the top) in each post whenever possible.
Also, you could also go back and provide updates and additional sections to some of your articles if you’d like, say add a section at the bottom extra.
And if you ever decided to do a YouTube channel, that might also be a huge boost, too. I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t, but I’m sure you know it’s a possibility.
Keep posting whatever you feel like posting.
The fact that (it seems like?) you’re doing this is one of the things that makes this blog more interesting.

The following are suggestions I would like, it may not necessarily grow the blog or audience:
– Regular and specific up to date articles about your investment strategy and outlook, like the gold / cash balance article.
– Being younger myself, anything that gives perspective on what’s going on in the world that affects me, with the perspective of someone with 20+ years more experience who is also a rational strategic thinker like me is very valuable.
– Anything practical is great, anything too theoretical is not so interesting.
– Anything too political too often is not so interesting, this does not mean basic articles but things like “Trump Did this” , “Alex Jones banned” , “Bernie is crazy ..”
– Book recommendations, both Fantasy Fun and Educational are awesome
– Generally more details and dealing more with competing / different arguments in detail would be helpful. I am following different blogs and authors I consider smart, yours is one of them, then I compare their arguments to make up my own mind. That’s the main reason I read your blog. The more details on why you formed a certain opinion the better, the opinion itself does not help much without the explanation of the thought process and all pro and con arguments that led you to the conclusion – which thinkers influenced you, and where I can read their material.
– An interesting format would be breaking down certain books or articles, especially those in conflict with your opinions. I just started reading “The Big Debt Crisis” from Ray Dalio and the new book on market cycles from Howard Marks, both very smart guys, when their opinions (many do not) conflict with yours / other people I follow I often think to myself “what would BD respond to that”, having your actual response to some very good competing arguments would be interesting. Even some kind of actual debate format with people who disagree with you, as a video or article, similar to what you had on the BD blog some time ago. The comment section debates do not really live up to that level of competing arguments.

I mainly come here for the Economics, Business and Investing categories. I also like some of the “nerd” stuff and Alpha 2.0 lifestyle posts.
I say more posts about business stuff and economy would be a good thing.
You’ve talked often about how many books out there are that are useful and from time to time you’ll mention this or that one. Maybe a book review once in a while would be a very good thing to include. I think book reviews could be a huge boost to your traffic since there are many books out there with a huge fanatic base that will jump at the first chance they have to discuss them. (This works best with non-fiction books, in my opinion)
I have noticed long ago that in your style of writing you always speak in duality. You are constantly making disclaimers as to why just because you say something bad about something that doesn’t mean that you support the opposite. ie: If you say something bad about Bush you must say Obama wasn’t good either, etc. I know this is necessary because newcomers would make assumptions and not understand your point of view but for longtime readers who already understand your point of view it might be a little tiresome to read the same disclaimers over and over again.
I don’t know how would I handle this though. Perhaps you’d be better off keeping it that way, these are just my thoughts on that style of writing and its upsides and downsides.

The rest is entertaining. I like deep stuffs especially related to physics, and it’s funny to read for me because your writing on these topics is very layman level.
I am less interested in the political stuffs. Even the building a new nation thing is mildly interesting for me in its current form and content. It’s so hypothetical and utopic but the scope of a tiny country like the size of ireland or portugal and population no more than 6 Millions is extremely limited… I don’t see much point nor why it is so limited. Moreover you don’t say anything about what you see best for the Free Cities. And most laws would be at City level anyways who could have any form of government democratic or not as they want. So it really doesn’t tell anything about how things would be for the everyday life of people finally, could just be the very same shitty laws we have everywhere anyways or worse. Problem is just displaced at City level. I fail to see why it would be better in anyway. Would already be more interesting to me if it was more general and could apply to any size of country or population.

Actually, in December (or so) I’m going to revamp ALL of my blogs and brochure sites, perhaps combining all them into one Caleb Jones super-site (separate blogs but on the same website). At that point, I’m going to totally focus on things like SEO. That’s coming very soon.
Working on it now, once the business course is all done.
I’ll be more clear.
Of course I’m only going to write about what I want to write about at all of my blogs, at least 95% of the time. At the same time, these blogs need to make money, so that is also a factor. Not one or the other, but both.
If money wasn’t a factor at all, my blogs would look somewhat different. Not radically different, but different. (Shit, if money wasn’t a factor at all, I wouldn’t even be asking you guys for suggestions because I wouldn’t give a shit.)
Perhaps I will have a “don’t give a shit about money at all” blog after 2024. That would be fun. But not today. Today I need to make money.

Only partially correct. That is for newcomers and existing readers who are argumentative types or nitpickers, of which I have many (lots of INTJ types, who I attract, tend to be anal nitpickers by nature).
This is why when I make a controversial but factual statement (“Long-term monogamy doesn’t work”) I have to, unfortunately, immediately qualify it (“…in the Western world and in the modern era”) otherwise some nitpicker will talk about how it works in India or worked in 1952, and I have to state something like “yes, there are always exceptions to every rule” otherwise someone will say, “But my uncle did it…” and so on.
In other words, qualifying my statements A) saves me a lot of time in the comment section and B) reduces the odds that I’ll be misquoted by others.
I don’t like that I have to do this, but if you were a professional online content provider you’d realize really fast that you’d have to do it too.

As a suggestion ,it will be very good if you start a section on this blog,about alpha 2.0 business ,where you give examples of companies that niched on certain markets,and talk about what great things other companies have implemented(like Zappos example from sublime your time blog).
It will also be cool if you “interview”(over email and you then post on this blog) friends of yours who have alpha 2.0 business,or who are an example to follow in the business world.

How does this blog make money? It’s obvious how your other blog brings you income, but posts on exactly how and where you make money would be very interesting. “Millennial Money Man” does a monthly breakdown of where and how he makes and spends money on his blog. Love that.

It doesn’t make as much money as the BD Blog, but I’m changing that ASAP.
Pat Flynn does that too. I agree its helpful, but I will literally never do that. My topics are far too controversial so I’d be risking a lot by describing my internal finances that way.
I talk about that stuff in the SMIC Program, but I won’t discuss it publicly.
I’m not going to see that piece of shit. I’m done watching bad movies. I suggest you do the same.
Haha, nope. Don’t care about them. Libertarians as a social movement are only about 3% of the USA and effectively 0% of Europe. So they’re a total non-issue (sadly) and thus not worth my time.
I have an article planned on this, but at the moment I only give to one: Big Brothers Big Sisters. I send them a big hunk of money every month. More on this soon.

I like the blend of deep thoughts and business. I’m already gorged on your time mgmt stuff and working on execution and focus etc…
as much data on the international topics and travel are probably my favorite and inspiring. sometimes I forget about how abundant those opportunities truly are.

For content, I like anything libertarian, tax law, business, lifestyle, marketing, sales, investing, office dynamics, negotiations, etc, but i think your other site should have the relationship and culture stuff personally. I think you can potentially sell more business products and seminars through this portal, since its more politically correct. I think I mentioned, I could get my clients and companies to pay for my tickets to your events or products if they were positioned as “business guru caleb jones” instead of “dating guru black dragon” lol. Im not sure if there are a lot of guys in my position or if you plan on buying traffic to your business offers. This portal seems a bit more compliant and scalable in my opinion. I like the business advice, especially if you talk about marketing or things for guys that are just starting their business for the first time.
I mean, how could I buy any of your product if I’m broke? if you help me start my business probably I’ll buy your products later when I have money, you already had helped me, I already trust you.

Designing a New nations bores me, it is an interesting talk for a bar, but most of that stuff takes place in an ideal world, I mean, capitalism and socialism sound awesome in theory, but in practice there are a lot of things that can’t be handled, in the real world there are a lot of power groups with their own interest.
You write more about individual ways to make your life better, not to “fight” in social movements, I like when you talk about libertarianism from a philosophical point, but I don’t like when you preach it.
3. Are there any new topics I should add to the rotation?
Marketing, Startups, freelancing maybe. Probably talk about examples of business mistakes that one should avoid.
4. Do you have any other advice or suggestions for me that you think will make this blog better and grow its audience? I’m all ears.
I’m a fan of anecdotes, if you can teach stuff from anecdotes or stories I think it might hook up more readers and trust you more.

Posted at 08:30 am, 7th October 2018I actually love the movie reviews, pop culture stuff, nerd stuff, and would really like to see more of it. Case in point, I just picked up Gardens of the Moon and I’m really enjoying it so far.
I especially like you talking about movies that show relationships that are accurate, like when you reviewed Knocked Up, but I know that stuff is usually more at your other blog. Still, things like that, or your article about how accurate they made Stranger Things is really cool to me.
Posts about finance are great too. I also really liked your gambling series (turned $100 into $3000 over about 6 months, before my schedule cut into me being able to go a few times a week) but I think it would be hard to keep making articles about gambling after your initial ones.
So yeah, more book and movie reviews please!

Not much of a blog reader, but I enjoy yours both because there are few guys out there who think like us and aim to structure their lives as individualists / break free of SP, and because you keep things interesting and entertaining.
The designing a nation series was impressive. I’ve never seen a full thought out proposal for what a real life libertarian nation might feasibly look like. I intuitively lean libertarian but never thought too deeply about this, mostly because politics is a waste of time. It was interesting to see someone tackle this subject, and some ideas really surprised me, such as having independent, free-market accrediting agencies instead of government regulatory agencies.

After that, I’d love to see a new series called: “What’s Caleb Using Now” or something similar, where you share some of the apps / devices you’re using for your personal life, productivity, etc.
It’s kind of like the “Currently Reading” section on the side bar of the blog, but for apps, devices, services, etc. A bit of background of how you’re using these would be great too, so not just listing stuff, but actually providing some explanation (plus you can make some money on the side with some Amazon affiliate links and similar”).
That would be super valuable for readers IMO.

You are correct and I’m aware of this. As I mentioned above, I’m redoing my entire front-end web portal to reflect lifestyle design for men (with a strong business component) rather than Blackdragon (though the BD Blog will definitely remain). It’s my next big project after the Alpha 2.0 Course and my South America trip; probably in December.
No, but there are indeed certain types of guys when it comes to business owners. I’ve added that to the topic list.

1) Avoiding taxes, more details on the “how”of opening your business addresses in countries that do not tax non-residents.
2) An article on basic fiscal and financial education. Books that you advise depending on where we are in business. I remember that you did your own education, what books helped you more maybe.
Reading articles is good. But I’d like to have a more solid foundation. I realize many people here in the comments have a better financial education and my knowledge is erratic. It would help me gain a lot of time and failures to be advised the right material instead or randomly buying books off Amazon. That would make your blog even more awesome to me.
