Republicans are Left-Wingers

Yep. Today’s Republicans are left-wing liberals. Therefore, if you’re a conservative and you vote for Republicans because you want conservative reforms, you are either being stupid or irrational.

Here are the facts that prove it:

Most REPUBLICANS want “free” government health care for all. source

Most REPUBLICANS want stricter gun control laws. source source

Most REPUBLICANS think climate change is real, a serious issue, and that government should do more to fix it. source

Most REPUBLICANS want wealth in the USA to be more “equally distributed” like in Sweden. source

Most REPUBLICANS don’t oppose government spending more money and going further into debt. source

Most REPUBLICANS are for raising the minimum wage. source

And on, and on, and on.

This is all above and beyond Republicans moving to the left on social issues since the left won the culture war many years ago (most Republicans support legalizing weed, most Republicans support gay marriage, and so on).

Today’s Republicans are not conservative. Today’s Republicans are left-wingers. That means the Collapsing USA is being controlled by two left-wing camps. The myth that Republicans are “conservative” is bullshit.

Hey, conservatives… these are the guys you want to elect more of?

And these are the people you think are going to save the country?

Yeah.

Good luck with that.

    Caleb,

Do you believe there are as many American’s that are socialist as the new left claims?  Obviously the very young are all for it because they only hear “free, free, free” or it just “feels like the right thing to do” since voting is getting more and more emotion based.  I feel like most working adults, especially those with families, do not agree with this ideology and if you did a true survey of Americans, you’d see it’s still a minority.   The surveys you see tend to cherry pick data or do large sweeping averages which any statistician worth their salt will tell you are worthless.  Not to mention the very annoying Ocasia-Cortez woman only won by like 4000 votes in a super low turnout over an incumbent that did nothing to get reelected.  Yet they make it sound like some huge landslide banner victory for socialism.

I know its been discussed on here before but I do firmly believe universal suffrage is a big part of the problem.  Not everyone should have the right to vote (even though this isn’t a democracy especially at the presidential level).   You need to have skin in the game to have voting rights (net tax payer, citizen, not on welfare..) but of course this would just cause people to scream RACISTS!!!!  MISOGYNISTS!!!! just like when they talk about requiring an ID to vote.  Who the fuck doesn’t have any sort of ID anyway???

I’m pretty apolitical these days anyway since both parties lost their minds long ago and there’s no viable alternative.  I would say I’m libertarian and would love to see more of that in government but I don’t see that happening.  Ideologies have become religion and you dare not challenge that these days.

Legit. I also argue that the left has become the right in that they want to rule with their ideologies just like the religious right used to. The left are using the same tactics.

Either way, “In statism we trust” has been a thing in the US for a long time.

Relying on government to make you happy in any aspect is a left wing ideology, and the right has relied on the government to make them happy for a pretty long time, not just recently.

The concept of IDs kind of messes with me, tbh, seeing that I’m an anarcho capitalist who doesn’t believe in that kind of stuff. But meh. It’s nothing to get too butthurt about.

I do agree with a lot of your sentiments however. I call it “The Collectivist Inquisition.”

    Hi Caleb,

There’s a politician in the USA running for president by the name of Andrew Yang. I don’t think he’ll win but his biggest campaign focus is bringing Universal Basic Income to the USA which I think is a horrible idea. I’m not American but I was wondering if you can talk about your take on the USA possibly having Universal Basic Income in the future and what sort of effect you’ll think it will have on the country?

Do you believe there are as many American’s that are socialist as the new left claims?

Socialist, no. People who excitedly support the “good” parts of socialism (free college, free healthcare, tax those evil rich people, more regulations on business, etc), absolutely, and there will be more every year.

I feel like most working adults, especially those with families, do not agree with this ideology and if you did a true survey of Americans, you’d see it’s still a minority.

Again, it depends on how the question is worded and what aspects of socialism you would ask these Americans about.

If you say “Socalist like Sweden” you’ll probably get mostly nos (maybe!). But if you say “Free college, free healthcare, more welfare, higher taxes on rich assholes, more crackdowns on business,” you’ll get mostly yeses.

Not to mention the very annoying Ocasia-Cortez woman only won by like 4000 votes in a super low turnout over an incumbent that did nothing to get reelected.  Yet they make it sound like some huge landslide banner victory for socialism.

True but dude, AOC is extremely popular.

    She’s just getting started.

    Just watch.

Not everyone should have the right to vote.

    Correct.

    “AOC is extremely popular.

    She’s just getting started.”

Very true and that’s the scary thing.  These types are usually the most popular politicians.  Bernie Sanders is always up there as well.  I see the pendulum swinging really hard left in the 2020 election.  I just can’t figure out why after seeing these types of policies fail through history they insist “it’ll be different this time…we’re so much smarter…”.  AOC and Bernie always just assume the millionaires and billionaires will fund all this shit.  All of their wealth combined would pay for a about 1 year of government spending.

The rich generally don’t get rich by being dumb.  They know how to work around these new taxes.  They hire the best accountants and lawyers to move things around and find all the tax loopholes in the insanely complex tax code.  So once they see they’re not getting the revenue they want out of these people, they’ll move the goalposts to include more and more folks they consider “wealthy”.

Healthcare does need big changes. It’s a disaster and anti-capitalist. With hidden prices, the “master ledger” that changes by doctor id, zip code, and procedure ID and is literally impossible to lookup beforehand.

Gun control — yeah there needs to be higher standards. Gun control was never about unlimited unfettered access to weapons, never was. There are numerous military weapons you cannot legally possess including the biggest baddest of them all: nuclear weaponry. Sounds obvious but the number of moronic gun owners who think the 2nd am = unfettered unrestricted unlimited access to all weapons at all times is stunning. Even the 1st Amendment is not unrestricted. We shouldn’t let unstable nuts or criminals ‘legally’ obtain guns and if you think laws don’t deter criminals, why have any crime laws on the books? Exactly.

Climate change: Meh 99% of scientists agree that climate change is a man-made aberration. Yeah China might be doing more harm than us, but one way or another, we’re screwed. Only reports otherwise are literally funded by greedy oil barons who hope to be dead before climate catastrophes happen and “they got theirs”. Truth hurts. If you think it’s a joke you were brainwashed by oil baron media and are easily led by the nose.

Yeah Republicans certainly don’t care about the debt. Records are all there, even though you’ll hardly find a Trumper who will agree the sky is blue. GWB BALLOONED the national debt, as did Donald J. Trump. They maxed out all the credit cards and then some. Obama? He actually dramatically reduced the deficit. The debt increased in his first two years but that’s like making your ex-wife rack up 40k in credit card debt to only 15k in credit card debt a year. You’re still going in the hole, just not as fast as when Bush left it. Trump has again fired our debt into the stratosphere. Not only is he a moronic self-serving buffoon, he probably hopes to be dead before any real effects of our debt hit us.

I agree that the US is in decline though.

Not because I’m a libertarian (I’m definitely not).

I just think there is so much corruption and mismanagement (and no that doesn’t necessarily mean only libertarianism is the answer) — that you might as well not not spend taxes if it’s going to graft.

Don’t get me wrong, a centralized state is always more competent than a decentralized “libertarian” utopia — the latter will always get eaten alive.

However, look at modern times. Tax dollars are going to corrupt politicians and their cronies. And a pointless “border wall”. Even if you hate Mexicans and Guatamalans — frankly I think we have more important issues — even if you are an unabashed racist, a border wall is completely ineffective against legal and illegal immigration and drug smuggling. It’s a complete waste. Trump is literally mentioning plot points (like Muslim prayer rugs — there are not many Mexican Muslims last I checked) from the movie Sicario 2. Sadly, our President has Alzheimer’s. I wish I were joking.

Yes it does, but not a government takeover. Read this.

Gun control was never about unlimited unfettered access to weapons, never was.

Correct, but that isn’t the problem with modern-day gun control arguments. Doing incremental shit like banning bump stocks or reducing the amount of bullets a semiauto can fire won’t prevent any school shootings in any meaningful way.

Climate change: Meh 99% of scientists agree that climate change is a man-made aberration.

I agree as well, but the solution isn’t more laws. More laws won’t do shit. Read this.

Yeah Republicans certainly don’t care about the debt.

…and neither do the Democrats, including Bernie Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez.

    America is fucked.

Not entirely on topic, but I thought you might find this interesting.

    https://www.jpost.com/Opinion/The-incredible-hypocrisy-of-Jeff-Bezos-580908

Essentially it is the argument that Jeff Bezos’ affair with Lauren Whatshername (who by the way isn’t particularly attractive) was made public in retaliation for his purchase of the Washington Post.

Now that is just the usual game playing stupidity of Washington and the political “elites”, but what is interesting here is the subtext — namely that the reason Bezos is getting a divorce is not because he is cheating on his wife, but because it became known in public that he was doing so. Mackenzie Bezos (who BTW is pretty attractive for a woman her age) surely knew he was banging other chicks, but the sin was not what he did with his penis, but that she was humiliated by it being made public.

Which is another example of what you have referred to in a few other places.

(BTW, it is also incredible to think that that woman will walk away with half his assets when she has done literally nothing to earn them. A perfect example of how ridiculous the American divorce laws are. And, as a side note, given that Bezos owns masses of stock in the company, and will be giving up half, there is a seriously good chance that she will have a right to a board seat, which will lead to all kinds of chaos.)

    @johnnybegood

Healthcare does need big changes. It’s a disaster and anti-capitalist. With hidden prices, the “master ledger” that changes by doctor id, zip code, and procedure ID and is literally impossible to lookup beforehand.

The problem with healthcare is plainly too much government. The idea that we have a free market healthcare system is a sick joke, it is one of the most heavily regulated industries in America. Almost nothing a doctor does is done of his own volition, everything is following a set of dictats from the government. It is as heavily regulated as the “free market” nuclear industry, or the “free market” banking industry.

The solutions to healthcare in America are generally simple. Here is one perfect example. I have a friend who is a diabetic and so needs regular supplies of insulin, yup one of the “pre-existing condition” people that we are supposedly so desperately in need of government intervention to protect. A vial of insulin costs aobut $350 and lasts for between 2-4 weeks. However, if she goes across the border to Tijuana, she can buy the same vial, literally from the same factory, for $5. The only difference? The label is in Spanish.

So as a free marketer I see a massive opportunity here. I can drive down to Tijuana, spend $10,000 and get 2,000 vials, drive up to Chicago where I live, sell them at a massive discount against current prices at $205, and make a $400,000 profit (minus $200 in gas money.) I have a printer so I can translate those labels into English and stick them on there. So why don’t I do that? Simply because it is against the law, and if I did so I’d probably end up in jail for a dozen years.

We could massively, precipitously cut drug prices in America with the simple expedient of allowing people to buy drugs from abroad. (Technically the difference in prices is called price discrimination, and international boundaries and regulatory action are some of the strongest barriers in support of price discrimination.)

Something that a lot of people don’t realize though is this: although this would massively reduce drug prices in the USA, it would also significantly increase drug prices in other countries. Without the isolated groups that price discrimination needs other drug users would have to “pay their fair share” of things like the drug production costs. What is little realized is that the reason drug prices are so high in the USA is that we literally subsidize the drug prices of everywhere else in the world. So please don’t tell me about how great things are in Sweden. Drugs are cheap in Sweden because Americans pay part of the cost (specifically through the uneven distribution of the NRE costs of the drug.)

This is a simple solution to drug prices that could probably be implemented with an executive instruction to the FDA and Border Patrol. There are many other simple solutions to our medical system problems that can be fixed by getting government out, not by putting more government in.

This article’s image feels a little clickbait-y, as it doesn’t line up well with the stated claim of its content.

McConnell and Ryan sure as hell aren’t left-wingers.
Based on his voting record, McCain was more conservative than not for most of his political career. The thing he had the most in common with politicians on the left is his love of waging war and the military industrial complex in general.
Trump is all over the f-ing place. Sometimes he goes from one end of the spectrum to the other in the span of a few days. The only accurate label for him is “insane.”

The problem with healthcare is plainly too much government.

    Ha! Good one!

  • Caleb Jones

McConnell and Ryan sure as hell aren’t left-wingers.

    Incorrect.

Ryan supported the socialistic health care program Medicare Part D. He supported giving your taxpayer money to corrupt bankers (TARP). He supported government bailouts of the auto industry. He supports block granting federal funds to the states for various welfare-like programs. And on and on.

McConnell attacked his own (including Ted Cruz) so he could raise the debt ceiling (i.e. spending ceiling). He has supported federal grants (i.e. corporate welfare) to various large farming companies. He is also for massive foreign aid to various countries, paid by you. He opposed Trump and wanted to maintain NAFTA. And on and on.

    You need to:

    1. Use actual facts to back up your points.

    and

    2. Pay attention to what politicians do rather than what they say.

I took the term “left-winger” to mean socially liberal (which I don’t think is an unfounded leap considering how often it used that way). I forgot I was commenting on a post from an avowed minarchist libertarian. Through that lens, I guess 99.9% of American politicians are left-wingers.

Nobody can claim that Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are even classic Republicans, except maybe the deluded, low-information voters in WI and KY that voted for them for years.

Paul Ryan was never the fiscal policy wonk he branded himself to be (successfully, I guess). Man was financially illiterate. He also exploded the National Debt which was his core platform half the time.

Frankly they make me, a liberal, yearn for Richard Nixon and I’m being absolutely serious. He may have been power-hungry but he had some lofty goals for the country that he tried to achieve and had principles of some kind.

McConnell has no core principles whatsoever except to enrich his personal bank account and jack off his donors. He flip flops on literally every issue including most recently, the 25 billion wall and whether declaring a national emergency made sense.

McConnell isn’t left-wing or right-wing. He’s “McConnell-wing” — that means he agrees to literally anything and any policy position provided you are the highest bidder (in $$$$) to his personal bank account. He should be hanged in the town square for high treason against America while children dance and celebrate and fireworks are lit off, but that’s another matter.

I took the term “left-winger” to mean socially liberal (which I don’t think is an unfounded leap considering how often it used that way).

It is an unfounded leap because socially liberal is only 50% of liberal. The other 50% is fiscally liberal.

If you, as a “conservative” or “Republican” only pay attention to socially liberal and completely ignore the other 50% of fiscally liberal, then you have just demonstrated the entire point of this article, and I thank you for doing so.

“As long as he’s against abortion and flag burning, I don’t care if he skyrockets the size and spending of government! Yay! Go for it Paul Ryan!”

Yup. Yet another reason why America is collapsing.

    Thanks, Republicans.
